The main branch of the Neighborhood Medical Center (NMC) is located in census tract 6, an area known locally as Frenchtown. Once a vibrant African-American neighborhood and cultural center, Frenchtown is now an area of extensive poverty and unemployment. In this census tract, the unemployment rate exceeds 20% and individuals living below the poverty level make up 52% of the population. Within a mile of NMC are two homeless shelters, a public housing project, a transitional shelter for formerly homeless families, and the central city bus terminal.

NMC realizes the needs of the uninsured and underserved population beyond the Frentown are must be served and consequently has expanded it’s service areas throughout the Big Bend area. NMC now has six (6) locations throughout the Tallahassee and Havana communities.
